Mechanical Design Engineering

JBS provides flight hardware, production tooling, and ground support equipment design for the NASA SLS Universal Stage Adapter (USA) program. Our services include Mechanical Design, Simulation, Solid Modeling (CAD), Prototyping, Product and Process Optimization, and Design and Stress Analysis Trade Studies.
Our Mechanical Design Engineers develop Bills of Material (BoMs) and component level specifications for mechanical assemblies. We apply industry recognized engineering design processes for all phases of design from Design for Manufacturability (DFM), drawing production, Product Data Management (PDM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), configuration management, through integration and development of mechanical systems.

Our designers use 3D modeling and CAD software to increase productivity, improve the quality of design, improve communication through documentation and create a database for manufacturing. The JBS mechanical design engineering team is made up of senior level mechanical design engineers experienced in many of the software tools used in mechanical design.  We bring more than 20 years of SolidWorks, PTC Creo, CATIA, and PTC Windchill experience to our customers. Our design team also has 30-plus years of real world hands-on mechanical experience to include precision machining, mechanical repair, fixed wing, rotor wing, DOD, and NASA programs. JBS optimizes engineering design resulting in successful solutions for engineering and manufacturing challenges.

NASA Marshall Space Flight Center

The focus of the task was to provide expertise in program planning and systems engineering to support the NESC propulsion technical fellow in derivation of products for a small sounding rocket (or nano-launcher) project for the Marshall Space Flight Center. JBS provided an efficient, economic and robust solution that resulted in a successful system that meets the user's needs.

Fatigue and Fracture Analysis

JBS provides technical engineering expertise in fatigue and fracture analysis for NASA’s Launch Vehicle Stage Adapter (LVSA), a hardware component of the Space Launch System.  We apply classical and computerized state-of-the-art fatigue and fracturing mechanics techniques to the evaluation of safe life and damage tolerance analysis for structural configurations of flight hardware and ground support equipment. Our expertise includes Fatigue Life Prediction, Crack Growth Simulation, Component Durability Analysis, Fatigue Crack Initiation Life, Fracture Mechanics Analysis, Fracture Fatigue Assessment utilizing NASGRO, Fracture Crack Growth Fatigue Analysis, Fracture Critical Analysis, and Finite Element Analysis using FEMAP simulation software.  JBS’s fatigue and fracture analysis solutions safeguard and prevent the accidental or unexpected failures of equipment and structural items which are subjected to dynamic load spectra.

U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Research Development & Engineering Center (AMRDEC)

Our customer, U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Research Development & Engineering Center (AMRDEC), needs system engineering support to design, develop and demonstrate a system to meet the hard-kill requirements for a Close-In Active Protection System (CIAPS), and JBS helps to develop the solution. JBS provided a one-stop system engineering shop for a complex prototypical system that was in the transition from MAPS-HK to CIAPS. The value to the customer was demonstrated in the capability to generate an architecture, system and subsystem level document and data structure that streamlined the SE process and accelerated the formalization and baseline of a validated requirements set according to a thorough System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).
